Q: What airport should I fly into?
A: We suggest flying into Florence Airport (FLR) or Rome Fiumicino airport (FCO).
Q: What is the best way to Florence?
A: If you are flying into the Florence airport there is a tram shuttle that goes between the airport and the city center called Tramvia. You will want to take Tramvia T2 and get off at Firenze Santa Maria Novella. From the Rome Airport, if you are coming by train you will need to take the Leonard Express from Fiumicino Airport to Roma Termini (the main train station), and then you can take the speed train (Italo or Frecciarosa) to Firenze SMN. If you prefer to have a private driver from Florence Airport, Rome Airport or Rome City Center, our planner can assist in securing this for you. You can email her you details, and she can provide options.
Q: When should I buy my ticket?
A: If you find a ticket at any point close to $1000 round trip it is a good deal, and you should get it. Anything under $1200 is reasonable from a major city considering it is high season. Outside of finding something in that range we suggest booking 5-7 months in advance.
Q: What details do I need to know about passports?
A: If you are needing to get a passport or renew your current we recommend doing so as soon as possible. Current wait times are about 12 -15 weeks for regular procurement. If you want to pay the extra fee for an expedited passport the wait time is currently 9-10 weeks. You passport cannot expire within 6 months of your current passport expiring from the date you would leaving FROM Europe back to the US. This is VERY important as you will be denied entrance if your return flight is within 6 months of your passport expiration.
Q: What is the weather like in May in Italy?
A: It will likely be quite warm during the day and then cool off a bit in the evening. Likely mid to high 70s during the day is quite common. We suggest making sure to have a wrap if you are wearing a dress for the evening in case in cools down significantly. There tends to be a wind at the villa since it is at the top of a hill.
Q: Is a visa required for travel to Italy?
A: Potentially. ETIAS is rolling out an online visa that will be required for US Citizens to enter the Schengen region. It has been said that it will roll out in 2027, but they have not listed a specific date. It will be a small fee and online registration that is required. Our planner is monitoring if this is going to be required for our guests and will notify everyone if our guests are going to affected.
